We, as FLÖ, are a coalition of several local student groups. In doing so, we follow the bottom-up principle. We, as the federal group, have no substantive influence on the work of the local groups, but the local groups have influence on the work at the federal level.
Some local groups also do not want to be formally part of the Independent Student Councils of Austria, but nevertheless recommend us as a nationwide list.

Guiding Principles
To become a member of FLÖ, organizations must commit to the following goals:
- The Promotion of democracy in all areas of society, both in internal working methods through the creation of low-threshold structures for opinion-forming and through transparent action, as well as in political work through advocacy for strong democratic structures, particularly those that enable student participation.
- The Inclusion and equality of all people and the fight against all forms of discrimination. This includes in particular the removal and visibility of barriers and structural hurdles, as well as the pursuit of equal opportunities. The pursuit of this goal should be directed both internally and externally.
- The Commitment to social responsibility of student representations and universities. This includes political work for students in all life situations, particularly in the areas of education, social affairs, community, inclusion and equality, culture, sustainability, environment and climate, science and research ethics, health, with the focus on students.
- The Strengthening independence, both in internal working methods in accordance with the independence requirement, and in political work through advocacy for the independence of student representations and universities.
All further substantive orientations of the university groups are entirely at the discretion of the local group and are not influenced by FLÖ.
